Nigel Kettle
BA (Hons), BSc Osteopathic Medicine (Hons)
Born in 1962, Nigel initially trained as a ‘complementary health practitioner’ achieving his diploma in 1990, he subsequently specialized in sports massage and other remedial therapies working alongside osteopaths in their practices.
This exposure to ‘hands on osteopathy’, seeing its scope and effectiveness in the treatment of a wide variety of musculo-skeletal and other conditions inspired him to train as an osteopath.
Osteopathic training is demanding and lengthy, and a recognised qualification is only available from osteopathic educational institutions accredited by General Osteopathic Council.
After studying four years full-time at the ‘British School of Osteopathy’ the countries oldest osteopathic school, Nigel qualified as a registered osteopath in 1999 with a 2.1 Batchelor of Science honours Degree.
In addition to working at Parkview Clinic, he works in private practices in Kent and Ewell. Also a teacher he is currently principal lecturer in Osteopathic Technique and Clinical methods at ‘Surrey Institute of Osteopathic Medicine’ a recognised qualification (RQ) osteopathic degree course based at North East Surrey College in Ewell. Although interested in all aspects of osteopathic practice he works primarily as a ‘hands on’ or structural osteopath and over the years has gained experience in the treatment of most conditions and age groups.
Philip Silk
BA (Hons), BSc Osteopathic Medicine (Hons) – Ex Personal Trainer
Philip is the most recent member of the team and brings a vast experience from his previous background in sports massage therapy, where he spent some of his time working on the London Marathon and the Tour de France, as well as working with several celebrities.
He received his Osteopathic qualification at Surrey Institute of Osteopathic Medicine where he learnt both structural and classical osteopathy; this gives him a huge variety of skills which allows him to treat each person to their own individual needs.
Because Philip used to be a personal trainer, he also provides his patients with exercises and advice which will help prevent their problems reoccurring and he is always on the end of a phone if his patients need some urgent advice.
He has a previous history of competitive tennis and football, and also has a keen interest in the treatment of herniated and prolapsed discs.
His previous successful work with babies and children with disabilities has given him a new found focus, but he has decided to put this work on hold until he has gained further qualifications which will assist in this area.
